[넥스트포스트=이종균 기자] K-pop group BIGBANG has returned with a new single on the exact day of its 20th anniversary, marking the group’s first full-group release in more than four years.

According to YG Entertainment, BIGBANG released its new digital single “BiiiG” at 6 p.m. on Aug. 19.

The date carries particular significance for the group, which debuted on Aug. 19, 2006. The release comes exactly 20 years later.

“BiiiG” is BIGBANG’s first full-group single since “Still Life,” released in April 2022.

Despite being released without conventional broadcast promotions, “Still Life” topped major music charts and later won a Bonsang in the digital song category at the 37th Golden Disc Awards.

The title “BiiiG” takes inspiration from the word “BIG” in the group’s name.

The track is described as a high-energy hip-hop song built around a powerful beat and an addictive hook. Leader G-Dragon participated in both the lyrics and composition, while Taeyang’s groovy vocals and Daesung’s powerful tone shape the song’s overall sound.

The members were also involved in the project’s visual direction and broader creative planning.

YG Entertainment said the single was designed to capture BIGBANG’s identity as it enters its 20th year while also showing a broader musical range.

The group is also rolling out a series of anniversary projects.

Promotional events are underway in Seoul’s Jamsil area, including media exhibitions and lighting installations around Seokchon Lake.

BIGBANG will also launch its 20th anniversary world tour later this week.

The “BIGBANG 2026-2027 WORLD TOUR ‘XX : COSMOS’” will open with three concerts in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, from Aug. 21 to 23.

The group is scheduled to perform 33 shows across 19 cities in North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia, with additional stops expected to be announced later.

BIGBANG had maintained intermittent group activities during its break from full-group releases.

Last November, Taeyang and Daesung featured on G-Dragon’s “HOME SWEET HOME,” and the three members later appeared together on stage.

The release of “BiiiG” and the launch of the world tour now signal a more formal return to full-group activities.

Since debuting in 2006, BIGBANG has built a catalogue of major hits including “Lies,” “Last Farewell,” “Haru Haru,” “Bang Bang Bang” and “Loser,” establishing itself as one of the defining acts of K-pop’s second generation.

With a new single and a large-scale world tour arriving at the start of its 20th anniversary, attention is now turning to what the group will do next.
